I Am Legend Film Review

A remake of a remake, with Will Smith as star, who we can't usually stomach, but he was actually quite good in this. Split camps though, as I really enjoyed this, but Barry didn't. I thought the action bits mixed with when he was going slightly crazy from being "the last man on earth" were well balanced. With him chatting to his dog, like Tom Hanks did to the football in Cast Away. The thing that ruined it for me was the silly ending, so if you goto see it then ask yourself why doesn't he get in too, it will make sense when you see the film!

Enchanted Film Review

Well as Barry didn't want to go and see this, I went with Mary, as Eddie also didn't want to see it! Sick buckets at the ready, as this film is overly syrupy ;-) The animated section has very good likenesses of the main cast, and the live action keep the cartoony cinematics going with over exaggerated actions. The story is pretty predictable, but I was expecting more songs, as there are only 2 stand out moments. Disney also successfully took the mickey out of themselves, which makes a change from Dreamworks doing it for them!

Bee Movie Film Review

Much better effort from Dreamworks than Shark Tale, but still not upto Pixar standards. Jerry Seinfeld, the bee, meets Renée Zellweger, the florist, and go about suing the human race for stealing their honey. Not roar out loud and not non-stop comedy, but keeps the chuckles coming and some clever animation moments.

Golden Compass Film Review

Another kids film with lots of trudging from A to B, lots of obscure names and pointless jibbering! The polar bears rescue the film with the battle sequences saving parts of the film. The lead kid is yet again also annoying. Probably good film it you are 10, but pap for everyone else!

Hitman Film Review

A bit random at the beginning flitting around with random assassinations, then finally they try to frame Hitman and get him to "hit" someone who is apparently a witness to his identity. The film is pretty entertaining, but you never really believe Tim Olyphant is hard enough to play Hitman, he always come across as a bit of a drip.

Stardust Flm Review

A fairytale romance with slight sci-fi undertones. A real feel good uplifting story with a smattering of love story.

The Dark is Rising Film Review

Fantasy kiddies film based on The Seeker mythology. From the Narnia people, but not as good as Narnia. The kiddy lead did get slightly annoying and ex-Doctor Who Chris Eccleston as the main baddy was far too wimpy. Average at best.

Resident Evil Extinction Film Review

Oh dear! The 3rd film in the trilogy so far was disappointing. It deserves the 1 out of 5 film review magazines were giving it. Zombies shuffling along, chasing you out in the open doesn't really work when you have the whole of the USA to hide in! The confines of the mansion and Umbrella facilities were much more tense.

War Film Review

Jet-Li and Jason Stratham, two obvious choices for a kung-fu movie. What we get instead is a bit of kung-fu and a story that drags quite a bit. I think it was Jet's fault, as we like all of Jason's other movies!

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Film Review

This film plays out as one big long stereotypical gay joke. All the usuals are in there, but half way through it looks as though Chuck and Larry might realise that it is sometimes difficult living a gay life, but thats for all of about 5 minutes, then it returns to the silliness. Even though some of the jokes are crude, they still made us smile.

Disturbia Film Review

After a horrific opening car crash, which sets the scene for bad boy Shia LaBeouf's house arrest. His mum cuts him off from the modern world, so he takes to looking out the window, Hitchcock style, and discovers he living next door to a serial killer (as you do)! Next the silliness starts, with Shia and friends further breaking the law, which ruins an otherwise tense thriller.

Run Fat Boy Run Film Review

Not as funny as Hot Fuzz, and certainly not as funny as Shaun of the Dead. Simon Pegg has lost his way with this rom-com. Obvious story with not many laughs.

The Simpsons Movie Film Review

Springfield Lake is over polluted, and guess who flytips even more, so that the government seals Springfield under a large glass dome? The family then escapes the dome and goes about try to free Springfield. The film plays out like a long TV episode, but doesn't get boring, and keeps the chuckles coming. Spider-pig and Harry Plopper make appearances in pig form, don't ask, you'll have to go see!!

Hairspray Film Review

John Travolta in a fat suit as a lady is wrong! John Travolta in a fait suit as a lady, doing a love duet with Christopher Walken is even worse!! Apart from that the film is a complete blast! Lively, uplifting, great songs.

Evan Almighty Film Review

Another film out in USA way before UK! Evan Almighty certainly wasn't worth the $175 million it took to make, but is was very entertaining and uplifting feel good film. A simple Bible story retold as a modern comedy. Wanda Sykes has some classic lines in her screachy trademark voice, and Steve Carrell carries the film along nicely. As we reminded about a hundred times at Universal Studios a few days before, this film had the largest animal cast ever, with over 100 pairs of real animals used. With predators and prey filmed seperately on green screen and combined in FX. They also really built the ark!! For the one screen times the ark and animals had they could have easily CGIed and saved loads of hassle and probably $100m on the budget!! Anyways still a highly recommended film.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Film Review

Certainly the darkest Potter film yet! Aparently the 5th book was a bit rubbish, and the film sort of shows this, as theres not alot going on until the final showdown. It was made more fun by the stupid American audience's screaches and yelps, at one point one woman even yelled out "Crap he's loose!", but this was about 5 minutes after the event!! Doh!!

Ratatouille Film Review

Better than Cars, no where near as good as Finding Nemo & Incredibles! Showed much more imagination than the sedate and quite frankly boring Cars, and made you smile in certain places, but still middle of the road for Disney/Pixar. In fact the trailer for Wal-E, their 2008 summer film showed more promise, and the short about an alien taking his driving test was even more entertaining!

Live Free Die Hard Film Review

Its boiling hot today at 91°, so we have a lazy day by the pool. In the evening we head to Downtown Disney to see Die Hard 4.0. Bruce Willis looks old, but not so old that hes unbelievable. The story however is a bit far fetched about "cyber terrorism". If you can overlook the silly story, then this is typical Die Hard action, but with a splash of modern CGI thrown in to heat up the action. The story keeps going at a nice pace, along with injections of action at the right points. Silly story, but very enjoyable.

Transformers Film Review

Woohoo, yeah, yeah, woohoo, yeah, *claps*, *claps* and thats just as the credits start! Americans are so loud! Faced with a full screen we settle down to watch the preview of Transformers The Movie.

The film starts with the nerdy american getting a 'new' car (note to film makers, Bumblebee was a Beetle not a Camero as portrayed in this film). Eventually boy meets girl, realises that his car is not just a car, its more than meets the eye! Then the action finally begins.

The CGI and transformation sequences were very well done, however a little too close to the screen making it difficult sometimes to see what was actually taking place.

Overall the film was average but the whole experience was ruined by over the top americans clapping cheering and laughing throughout the film. I am sure that had we seen this preview in the UK (with British reserve!) we would have enjoyed the film alot more.

Fantasic 4 - Rise of the Silver Surfer Film Review

Much more action than the first film. Much less character building than the first film. Fantastic Four take a slight back seat to the Silver Surfer. Much more and better special FX and scenes that the first film. Basically what the first film should have been!! Great film, thoroughly enjoyable, the first good action film of the summer. Same humour between Johnny and The Thing. Jessica Alba has very plastic over-bleached hair and her fake tan varies from Umpa-Loompa orange to gaunt and pale in some scenes! Few plot flaws in Mr. Stretches clothes stretching with him. But ignoring all that, still a great film!!

Pirates 3 Film Review

Yo-hmmm, Yo-hmmm an average film we have! Oh dear what happened here?? From the brilliance of the first two films to a plodding film with too much going on, poor special effects and little set pieces. Trying to do too much a the start by getting Jack back and introducing new characters, to plodding around on the sea from port to port. With very poor FX when showing multiple-Jacks in Davy Jones' Locker, to giant lady who ends up doing hardly anything, followed up by the finale in the whirlpool, which was spoilt by the trailer. Lite on comedy, poor on FX, no set pieces like the island or Kraken from Pirates 2. Was slightly confused by too much going on at the beginning, to falling asleep while they sail around, to being woken up by the thunder storm in the finale.

The Magicians Film Review

Mitchell and Web, or PC and Mac in their current advert run, star in this long running, not quite as funny as the Peep Show movie. Entertaining, with occassional laugh out funny pieces. Stick to a few Peep Show episodes back to back instead.

28 Weeks Later Film Review

Starts out very promising with good opening scene and story flashback to 28 Days Later. Then fast forwards 28 Weeks to when the whole of the UK is infected and dead, except a few survivors. The US military move in to control the remaining population and keep and further outbreaks under control. What follows are some very gory scenes, followed by silly running round by being chased by zombie scenes, which weren't as entertaining as Resident Evil. They definitely ran out of story puff at the end, which is a shame as the plot line was good. Of course they leave it open for 28 Months Later!

Spiderman 3 Film Review

Film is trying to do too much. Too much story, too many badies, too many girlfriends, too many bloody Mary Jane scenes. If they cut out all the muchy stuff and made it full on action, or vice versa, would have been better (action preferred!). The action scenes are great, and the huge showdown between Spiderman, Green Goblin Jnr, Sandman and Venom is superb, although badies are dispensed with a bit quick and Green Goblin Jnr ends up doing more than Spiderman! Little bit hom-hum on this film, was expecting more, just not this much, but still enjoyed none the less.

The Reaping Film Review

A ex-minister turned scientist who goes around disproving plagues with scientific reason, gets caught right in the middle of the real thing! Good story, good suspense, great jumpy bits, with a twist at the end, turned out from what we thought to be an average film, to be a very entertaining one. The plagues are also well CGIed and rubber frogged!!

Shooter Film Review

A fairly slow and steady story, with a twist at the end where Mark Wahlberg goes on a vigilante style rampage to clear his name. Nothing particularly amazing about this film, no action sections, nothing of note at all really, just a good story that keep you watching.

Sunshine Film Review

What do you get when you pin all your hopes of saving the world on 8 stupid Americans and launch them into space? A very silly and very flawed sci-fi film called Sunshine!! Oh dear, this film had some very, very annoying plot flaws in it, and as in so many of these types of film, you just want them all to die in the end so the film is over!!

300 Film Review

Lots of blood, flying limbs and gratuitous nipple shots (male and female!) with a thin story line stringing it together. 300 Spartans fight 3 million Persians and put up a pretty good scrap. With a deformed Golum character and large elephants reminiscent of LOTR the film puts on a show. Not sure how it got away with a 15 certificate, but very entertaining none the less.

Norbit Film Review

"Hey", "How you doing'?" and lots of other stereotypical phrases spring to mind, in a fairly humerous, but not laugh out loud film. Murphy returns to Nutty Professor fat suit days, plays numerous characters and rolls out some old jokes. Entertaining, but wait for it on DVD.

Ghost Rider Film Review

Nick Cage is a bit wooden, but as soon as he transforms into the Ghost Rider the action picks up. Nice short intro to the character and story or those who don't know the comics. Short n sweet love interest story, then into Ghost Rider going after the badies. We had to leave for massage before the film ended, but it could have gone one of two ways; saves the day and girl or crosses evil and gets the girl. We'll have to wait for the DVD!! One thing to watch out for is why Ghost Riders skull is such a different shape from Cage's??

Night at the Museum Film Review

Part Jumanji, part original story. Wishy washes around the dad/son story a bit, but cranks it up at the end when they, including the museum exhibits, work together to save the museum. Ricky Jervais is just plain annoying, doing his same old character, and not sure why he was cast. Ben Stiller is great, and Robin Williams is controlled. Just a fun entertaining film, if a little slow at the beginning.
